It has been amusing to see the confusion of units used in the reporting of the downed aircraft, now that the focus has switched to metric Australia. The length of the debris is usually given on graphics in metres, but distances from the coast are given in miles. Last night a Fox News airline expert was giving distances in kilometres, but Hannity was giving lengths in feet.

It is curious that the producers are not using some standards. Maybe they are just ignorant of the fact that metres and miles don't mix!
