My doctor has provided me with a health portal, an online communications
link between the two of us. Those are getting to be increasingly common,
I think.
Mine is run by eClinicalWeb. I note with pleasure that it does not use
the FDA prescribed symbol for the prefix micro, that is "mc". Nor,
however, does it use the SI symbol µ. Rather, it uses the lowercase u. I
find that to be acceptable, though µ would have been better.
Other than that, I have seen no significant problems with their use of
the SI.
I have sent the following comment in to that website's designers:
"Thank you for not using the inane symbol "mc" to stand for the prefix
micro, as the FDA prescribes. Rather, you are using the lowercase letter
u, which is much more acceptable. Even better though would be to use the
correct SI symbol µ. This symbol can be produced in HTML by either of
µ or µ or µ and it is recognized by virtually all
browsers. The SI is the International System of units, the modern metric
system."
