For its public pages in metric, the National Weather Service uses kilometers per hour. However, a lot of their raw data, which is used for analysis, is in meters per second. I used meters per second as the unit of choice in my research on sea breezes for my master's thesis.

In the US, people are used to miles per hour being used. I think it would be easier for them to make the transition to kilometers per hour than to meters per second.

I see that BBC and the UK Met Office publish wind speeds in miles per hour, for which they use "mph".

'Meters per second' is used in Russia to report wind speed in weather

would be moving 5 meters on count 'one and')

Never understood everyone's fascination with m/s.

No, that is not an option, Gene. I'm happy with kilometers per hour.
