An interesting situation. Have you contacted the instructor and asked why? Is it a personal preference? A school preference? A district preference? Influence from local industry?

It is good that this is happening, but is it happening everywhere in US schools or are some more ahead than others?

My grandson, William, and his friend, Justin, are High School Freshmen in St. Charles, Missouri.

They are using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) at their school to design and build a bird house for me.

The instructor in the school’s engineering design course uses only millimeters in his CAD-CAM classes!

I am pleased to know that my new bird house will be designed and built in millimeters-only!

Because of “snow days” this past harsh winter, William and Justin are not out of school into June this school year, a little late for bird nesting, but never too late for a millimeter design.
