I share your grief Ezra. We often watch science documentaries. Sometimes a
scientist speaking will use SI units, then the narrator will jump in and
ruin everything by dumbing it down with non-SI units. I feel a real
disconnect and inconsistency when watching American documentaries. We also
watch BBC and France24 news broadcasts. Sometimes a BBC reporter will give,
for example, wind speed (like this morning on Philipines) in km per hour,
but other times in miles per hour. The BBC seems to be inconsistent;
sometimes SI, other times, non-SI. Even France24, which gives news with
mostly SI units will sometimes use miles or feet, perhaps because they
think they are doing their English-speaking audience a favor. I first
started watching Al-Jazeera news many many months ago specifically because
they use SI units, but now, they have this Al-Jazeera America that is
specifically taylored for American audience, all dumbed down in non-SI
units. Very very sad indeed.

This is a fascinating video about the Webb telescope being built by
NASA. Way cool!

     Unfortunately, nearly everything they say when it comes to
measurements, distance, etc. is US Customary rather than SI.

     Very, very sad ....
