What I find annoying is people using the term square footage instead of area, “what’s the square footage of your house” instead of “what’s the area of your house”. Also the use of “Horsepower" instead of “Power”. This engine develops plenty of Horsepower instead of this engine develops plenty of power.
In South Africa and Australia (and elsewhere) I’ve come across many English speaking people who refer to the odometer reading as “mileage”. "Whats the mileage on you car?” "About 50 kay” in Australian lingo. Some words will fade away and others will develop new meaning. I’m quite happy with using kW for engine power, I find it annoying when journalists use only horsepower which can mean all sorts of things. Plus it allows a direct comparison of internal combustion and electric engines.
