I have no idea what point Kooiman as trying to make here, whether it was
anti- or pro-metric or neither. Of course, as we USMAers would say, if
everyone used the metric system, there would be no chance of confusion.

Since AirAsia Flight QZ8501 disappeared, there has been no
shortage of explanations, recriminations, and conspiracies floated, but
Fox News host Anna Kooimans speculation on Fox & Friends, wondering if the
disappearance of the flight could be attributed to the metric system,
could well take the cake.

This footage shows a Fox News presenter appearing to suggest a link
between the use of the metric system by non-US pilots trained pilots and
the disappearance of AirAsia flight QZ8501.
Anna Kooiman asked former FAA spokesperson Scott Brenner if the "real
reason" the AirAsia plane disappeared was because of the different way
other countries train their pilots."
"Even when we think about temperature, its Fahrenheit or Celsius," she
says, "Its kilometers or miles. You know, everything about their training
could be similar, but different."
Brenner emphasised the reliance of non-US pilots on automatic pilot during
flights.
He said: "And a lot of that is because a lot of crashes are due to pilot
error. So, if you try and eliminate any potential risk, you try and
eliminate the pilots ability to make incorrect inputs into the aircraft."
