Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee announced he is running for
president on Wednesday, becoming the third Democrat to challenge
Hillary Clinton.
"Today I am formally entering the race for the Democratic nomination
for president," Chafee said in a university auditorium just outside
Washington, D.C.
During his speech, Chafee suggested the United States abandon its
current measuring system and adopt the metric system, saying such a
move could prove an economic boon.
"Earlier I said, 'Lets be bold'. Here's a bold embrace of
internationalism," Chafee said, "lets join the rest of the world and
go metric. I happened to live in Canada as they completed the
process. "Believe me it is easy. It doesnt take long before 34
degrees is hot. Only Myanmar, Liberia and the United States aren't
metric and it will help our economy! Chafee said.
Chafee told Fox News his idea to convert the United States to the
metric system is just "one of ten" that sets him apart from other
candidates.
========= One particularly uninformed comment by Politico ran: "I
just dont understand how you can make the metric transfer,
mechanically, one student said to another."
As if 200 other nations had any problem! It seems that our U.S.
educational system is failing us again.
