I remember that in the 1970s a BC cartoon mentioned the proposed metric 
conversion for America:

One character bemoaned the possibility that he wouldn’t be able to say “I love 
you a bushel and a peck” (From the musical Guys and Dolls.

The other character replied that you would be able to love someone “a liter and 
a meter”
(Alas, I haven’t been able to find the graphic of this cartoon.)
