Whatever Tucker Carlson's uninformed remarks on metric during one of his
recent programs, Fox News continues to allow metric through unconverted.
This evening Lou Dobbs on the Fox Business network had on Wilbur Ross,
U.S. Commerce Secretary. In describing the large pavilion that the U.S.
will have at the upcoming Paris Aerospace Exhibition, he described the
space as "6,250 square meters." No one blinked.
Because the Commerce Department is supposed to be the one promoting
metric, it is only fitting. Carlson achieves high ratings because he is a
rabble rouser. Who knows what he really thinks about metric? He may have
said obviously extreme and ridiculous things to get a rise out of his
audience, who without objection already use metric in pharmaceuticals,
alcohol, soft drinks, electricity, lighting, nuclear energy, and so many
other areas.
It is entirely possible that because of the deficient education in the
United States as compared to other developed countries, many Americans may
not even know how much they are already using metric units! --Martin
