The total solar eclipse on July 2, 2019, whose first totality at landfall in Chile will occur at about 20:38 UTC, is being carried by NASA with a feed from the Exploratorium science museum in San Francisco: https://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse

Unfortuntely, the commentator there, identified as a Ph.D., is describing the event in legacy units. The commentator is one of those annoying people who is trying to stir interest with feigned overenthusiasm for children rather than let the scientific even speak primarily for itself.

What a missed opportunity to acquaint the students there with the actual system (metric) that astronomers use. This is the kind of high-profile opportunity that we have recently been discussing on this list. We need to get NIST and the science organizations to get scientists to cover in metric. --Martin Morrison
