I think that too much is being read into Boris Johnson's recently statement on metric in the U.K. First of all, he admits that it must be recognized that Brits are now bilingual in measurement. That is an BIG admission.

Second, he indicates no proposed legislation, except that the penalties for using imperial units could be rescinded. Nobody is prosecuting these anyway.

Third, remember the historical context. There is a close election being fought in Britain. For a highly-contested election, Johnson appears to be thowing out a sop, which in the end will be all talk and very little action, if any.

To me, it seems that Johnson recognizes that whatever happens to Brexit, the U.K. is going to be using and trading in metric units. This is the reality, and Brexit will not change it.
