I disagree. First of all, in a national metrication plan, conversion to the
metric system will not be occurring in a vacuum. Public schools will be teach,
and the general public be bombarded with, the metric system as a subject, and
metrication as an historical issue within the subject. An interim use of quarts
would retard the process and prolong what is enough confusion already. That
being said, there MUST be a direct changeover to metric. Yes, there will be
some friction about it, but I think the public will adapt to it as long as they
see that it is part of a national process and that they see the 3 L bottle is
enough for them. I don’t even think that anyone kicked up a row over a 96 fl.oz
= 2.8 L size Lactaid milk.

I am totally convinced that America can initiate a coordinated, national
metrication plan. What convinced me so absolutely? One word: CORONAVIRUS!
