I don’t know about the way in which baseball is reported in the US, but the British TV tends to use mph for the speed at which balls are delivered in cricket and in tennis. Personally, I have never seen either a tennis ball or a cricket ball travelling for an hour, so using m/s makes eminent sense, especially if you know how long a tennis court is (23 m from baseline to baseline) or a cricket pitch (20 m between stumps).
