I could be wrong so someone please update me but I believe NASA is using metric on Mars and plans to on the Moon as well.

ATTENTION: This email came from an external source. Do not open attachments or click on links from unknown senders or unexpected emails. Hi, everyone, If you are planning to re-vitalise the pro-metric movement in the US you must to talk to the general public, not just politicians. People will need to be educated about the metric system and informed of its advantages. If there isn’t some kind of public awareness programme before the metric system is introduced folk will just dig their heels in and loudly say “NO!” as they did in the 1970s. You are in a fortunate position now, because in the time since the failed metrication effort of the 1970s the metric system has become more visible. Vehicles now have metric nuts and bolts; 3k and 5k races are common; a lot of consumer items are packed in even metric quantities, not just the 2 L soda bottle; a lot of news from overseas includes metric distances or sizes. Metric is an option in all sorts of activities: • Pokemon, 3D printing, computer games and is in the settings of a lot of computer applications. • Some things are done solely in metric: science, medicine, sport, manufacturing (but the metric size is hidden fromAmerican consumers). • All sorts of electronic devices can be changed to metric at the flick of a switch, thermometers, thermostats, weighing scales, car speedometers and odometers. (It's 1.2 MB in size and 127 pages long.) There is a myth that metrication in Oz was voluntary but this is only partly true. The various states and territories changed their weights and measures legislation to make metric the only allowed measuring system, but committees drawn from industries and sectors of the community were empowered to set their own standards and timetables. This meant they were answerable to their peers, which in turn compelled them to make workable solutions. The original push for metrication here came from industry, and Australia was fortunate that it had widespread support from industry, the media, all three major political parties, and all state and territory governments. Good luck getting that to happen in America. Below is a post I made to Reddit’s metric forum in 2013. Sadly, I could post it tomorrow and it would still be valid. To do this we will need to do more than give upvotes to posts we like on Reddit. We need to reach out to the general public and show them that the metric system makes sense, and that America should adopt it for domestic use in the same way that it has been adopted by science, the medical industry, a lot of manufacturing industry, the armed forces, international athletics and almost every other country around the world. Someone posted a link to Amazon's catalogue of metric products, which is only half metric and some dual-marked instruments.) • A logo for companies who supply metric-sized products, take orders in metric dimensions and fabricate products to metric dimensions. Is there anything you would like to add to this list? More importantly, which of these are you prepared to do yourself? https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2FMetric%2Fcomments%2F1m5xah%2Fwe_need_to_talk_to_the_world_outside_reddit%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7Cf142e2c9cafe40c1cfa208d8d7386a2b%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C1%7C637495984587424414%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=H4OAQWUdx7Nq9v1SnbyHvJEGMH8EcuS2Mg12%2BcIBzac%3D&reserved=0<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fprotect2.fireeye.com%2Fv1%2Furl%3Fk%3Dc9f08422-966bbd33-c9f27d17-000babd9fe9f-9842052bcb8295c4%26q%3D1%26e%3Dee397394-b831-4260-b57a-59d394fbada0%26u%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fnam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com%252F%253Furl%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.reddit.com%25252Fr%25252FMetric%25252Fcomments%25252F1m5xah%25252Fwe_need_to_talk_to_the_world_outside_reddit%25252F%2526data%253D04%25257C01%25257Cusma%252540lists.colostate.edu%25257C90f49c16b43540e4e87708d8d5f8715e%25257Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%25257C0%25257C1%25257C637494610333497185%25257CUnknown%25257CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%25253D%25257C1000%2526sdata%253DUH1GgMxqzwakAq1u6jb%25252FEQGJHAup9uI1zuwYZsYCL%25252Fo%25253D%2526reserved%253D0&data=04%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7Cf142e2c9cafe40c1cfa208d8d7386a2b%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C1%7C637495984587424414%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=6JWNr8Ci9lgUq6sOULM0UMmUAmZdUeiNtGOSn3Q%2B%2FFM%3D&reserved=0> = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = On 21 Feb 2021, at 05:02, J McClellan <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: I don't know, maybe it's me but it seems advocates for metric change in the US tend to share the common personality trait of being wallflowers. There's probably good reason for that, as we're so quickly ridiculed and brow-beaten into submission by the torch and pitchfork wielding masses. I joined the USMA in the hopes of showing my support for an organization that effects change but apparently due to their 501c3 status the USMA is prohibited from political activism, and that does make sense. I am still glad to be part of a community of like-minded people who understand the importance of the SI. I personally wouldn't know how to go about it but it perhaps if some of us connected outside of the USMA, we could assemble for political change? I can share my contact info with anyone who would be interested in going forward.
