Hi, everyone,

There are a couple of news items on Reddit’s Metric forum that may interest
you. I’ve put them in one letter for convenience.

1) In a publicity piece for a new motorcycle service shop

I learned that Harley motorcycles still use inch-sized components and
fasteners. After a bit of online research

I found that some components, sourced from outside manufacturers, use metric
fasters but Harley are still using inch sizes, so Harley owners will need two
sets of tools.

Life isn’t easy if you want to “Buy American!”

2) An editorial about the decline in the teaching of science in American
schools,

and the consequent decline in the nation's scientific performance, by John
Richard Schrock, a university professor in Kansas.
He describes several areas where the US is falling behind other countries and
lists nine things that need to be done to reverse this decline, including his
last point: introduction of the metric system.

9—And finally, the U.S. must immediately switch to the metric system and
abandon our non-metric complexity that handicaps American students in the
physical sciences.
It took us decades to become science illiterate. It will take decades to regain
what we have lost. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is moving ahead.

We need more scientists, engineers and educators promoting the metric system.

You are welcome to use these (or anything in Reddit’s Metric forum,) for the
