Trying to convince a couple of people in I think the US of this fact was proving rather difficult. My analysis is: 1 litre of water has a mass of 1 kg, therefore 1000 litres of water has a mass of 1000 kg = 1 tonne. 1 tonne = 2200 lbs, so 1 tonne = 0.98 long tones. Beer has a density of 1.06 kg/L If we make the assumption that beer and water have the same density, we will introduce an error that is no greater than 6%. If we make an assumption that one tonne equals one long ton, we will introduce an error of about 2%. These two error together add up to 8% (un less they work against each other). We therefore deduce that 581,000 litres of beer has a mass of 581 tonnes. This is so far removed of 32 tonnes that we must assume that there is a serious discrepancy between the sources form which the figures were derived. Since Wikipedia works from reliable sources, there should be no harm in a Wikipedia editor calculating the exact conversion and stating that the two sources are contradictory and demonstrating this contradiction in a note at the bottom of the article, giving all the figures used. The mass of this beer is supposedly 32 Long tons or about 32,5 tonnes (32 500 kg). Just looking at this and knowing a litre of water weighs a kilogram, this is not correct but other editors disagree. Please take a look at the talk page and make some comments. https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTalk%3ALondon_Beer_Flood%23Mass_of_beer&data=05%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7C3fa4043ad6404e0c635e08dac40af0d9%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C0%7C638037849270965281%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=X%2F0QJsOc2vSHbTT6BNe6Z4aO3LFltN%2FrT1x57kVT%2Bwk%3D&reserved=0<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTalk%3ALondon_Beer_Flood%23Mass_of_beer&data=05%7C01%7Cusma%40lists.colostate.edu%7C3fa4043ad6404e0c635e08dac40af0d9%7Cafb58802ff7a4bb1ab21367ff2ecfc8b%7C0%7C0%7C638037849270965281%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=X%2F0QJsOc2vSHbTT6BNe6Z4aO3LFltN%2FrT1x57kVT%2Bwk%3D&reserved=0>.
