** Caution: EXTERNAL Sender ** I19 tuns north-south, so most of its signs either face north or face south and very few face east or west. From my observations in South Africa, road signs that face north fade far quicker than those that face south. I suspect that the same is true of the I19 except that being in the Northern Hemisphere, the south-facing signs will fade faster. Consequently it will be difficult to change all the signs at the same time.

However, I did read articles that when the signs get too worn they're talking about removing them unfortunately. The positive aspect is that businesses and people that reside along this stretch of road have expressed that they want the signs to remain in metric! I have never heard Trump using metric terms at all. I don't feel he likes the metric system and he's probably not even knowledgeable about it. He's going on 78 yrs old most of those people hate the system unfortunately. That would be too minor a matter to deal with and would be contrary to existing law, as metric is the "preferred" measurement system in the U.S. I have heard Trump using metric measurements in his speeches. Some anti-metricists are implying the metric is unAmerican, but we have heard that nonsense before. Metric was favored by Thomas Jefferson, was officially recognized by Ulysses Grant, etc. Whatever your source is, write a letter and correct ignorance. ============ On Fri, 2 May 2025, harry wyeth via USMA wrote:
I don't really belong to the USMA any more but seem to get messages anyway. Thanks. But maybe someone would like to respond to yesterday?s Wall Street Journal article about idiot Trump trying to order the kilometer signs removed from the freeway south from Tucson AZ down to Nogales. What next? Requiring auto engines to be designed in cubic inches?
