For Dual-Host Switch Mode (Mode 0), only the lower port works for the NI 8265
RAID. But none for the X300.
I have tried the OSS-HIB38-x8-DUAL (Mode 2), called ?Expressnet secondary?.
In that mode, the NI 8265 RAID is recognized and functional in Windows on both
ports. But again, none for the X300.
I have tried the 2 other modes of the OSS-HIB38-x8-DUAL (Mode 1: Target, Mode
3: Triple Host). The 8265 is not recognized in those modes.
The X300 shows up in the Windows Device Manager as a ?PCI Data Acquisition and
Signal Processing Controller?, with a yellow triangle and an exclamation mark.
It says that the Drivers are not installed (Code 28). Obviously, I tried many
times to install NIRIO1310f1 driver and the ?niusrprio-stable_Win64? low-level
driver, but it won?t change the status of this device in the Windows Device
Manager.
Yes, I?m booting the computer when the X300 is already powered on and plugged
in. Whenever I changed the connection or the OSS card mode, I have shut down
the PC, made the change, and re-powered up the PC.
In the Windows Device Manager, the Location of the X300 is ?PCI Slot 73 (PCI
bus 5, device 0, function 0)?. I?m wondering if this can point you to a PCIe
enumeration problem.
Thanks again!

I'm not familiar with dual host mode. Can you try it in regular host mode?
Possibly on both ports? Also, does it show up in the device manager, but not
work, or does it look like the device isn't even connected at all? Are you
booting with the USRP already powered on and plugged in? And are you rebooting
every time you unplug, replug or power down?
I'll look into getting one of these cards to test with if this doesn't help.
Thanks,

Do you have the board set for host mode? Which port are you using? Do you
have standard x8 to x4 cables?

Which HIB38 card are you using? It looks like there are multiple versions.

However, I can?t get the benchmark_rate to receive samples at the rate of

In the end, I prefer a setup in a ?regular PC? with a PCIe Adapter card.
The problem is that I don?t have the recommended PCIe card NI PCIe-8371 card.
I have tried the OneStop Systems OSS-HIB38 card, but I can?t get Windows to

I also tried the ?MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility Software?, but it won?t detect

Any ideas of what I could try?
Where can I find more information about the ?MXI-Express Mode 1 operation?? I?d
like to find out if the OSS HIB38 card is supporting this Mode.

Thanks for the suggetions.
I have not confirmed that it is just single packets being dropped.
Lost packets sometimes correlate with counter increases in the
kernel/driver, and sometimes do not. When they do, the dropped count
from ifconfig and the rx_no_buffer_count and rx_missed_errors fields
from ethtool -S increase. Usually it reports around 1000 dropped
packets.
I did increase the kernel buffer space to 300M.
I have not changed the default MTU.
The chip on my NIC is a 82574L. Do you know what specific changes should
be made to get it to not drop packets? Alternatively, is there a 1x
PCI-E gigabit NIC you would recommend?
I tried the following things:
Upgrading to the most recent driver (3.0.4-NAPI)
Disabling flow control with ethtool -A
Increasing the rx ring buffers to max with ethtool -G
Setting these kernel options (found through Google, not really sure
exactly how some of these are supposed to help): pcie_aspm=off
e1000e.IntMode=1,1 e1000e.InterruptThrottleRate=10000,10000 acpi=off
After all that, I'm still seeing packets being dropped when running
benchmark_rate:
./a.out --rx_cpu=sc16 --mode mimo --args

A few thoughts Nathan.
It sounds like you are just loosing single packets at a time, have you
confirmed this?
Do lost packets correlate with counter increases in the Kernel/Driver?
(ifconfig & ethool -S) or are they silently lost?
Have you followed basic configuration info form here
(http://files.ettus.com/uhd_docs/manual/html/transport.html)?
Particularly stuff that increases available kernel buffer space.
Have you changed the default MTU from 1500 to something larger? This is
a cause of issues in a surprising number of cases.
Have you investigated the errata for the exact model of chip used in you
NIC? In recent years Intel 82574L and 82579LM have both had errata that
caused random packet loss and there are some configuration fixes for
these issues.
Has your NIC/Kernel decided to enable 802.3x ethernet flow control?
(ethtool -a). If so disable that. (ethtool -A INTERFACE autoneg off tx
off rx off)

My setup is as follows:
UHD 3.7.1 on CentOS 6 (built from source)
4 USRP N210s with SBX daughtboards, 2 connected directly to my computer
via gigabit Ethernet to individual gigabit Ethernet ports on separate
subnets, the other 2 connected with a MIMO cable to the first 2 USRPs.
The 2 master USRPs are connected to the same GPS based 1 PPS and 10 MHz
reference through a splitter. Time_source and clock_source for those is
set to "external"
The 2 slave USRPs have time_source and clock_source set to mimo.
I'm setting the time using set_time_next_pps() on the 2 master USRPs,
and checking to make sure the time is synced between all 4 USRPs before
starting the capture.
The sample rate for all 4 USRPs is set to 12.5 MHz.
I'm starting the capture as a continuous stream with a start time 0.5
seconds in the future.
3.7.1 firmware image flashed on all USRPs.
One multi_usrp object constructed with all 4 USRPs and
recv_buff_size=150e6.
I'm calling recv() in one thread and then passing the buffers to 4
separate threads for writing to files. The files are on an SSD that is
not having any issues keeping up with the writing.
Thanks.

I run Windows x64 and have no problems using the Driver Balint wrote.
When you ran the setup for
http://spench.net/drupal/files/ExtIO_USRP+FCD+RTL2832U+BorIP_Setup.zip ,
did you install it in the same directory as HDSDR?
Also, you can use Simon Brown's SDR Console
http://v2.sdr-radio.com/Download.aspx . Just make sure you have x64 UHD
installed and run uhd_usrp_probe.exe first. You need to do that so the fpga
code loads first.

I did no install to the same directory as HDSDR - I will try that now. And if
that doesn't work I'll go for Simon Brown's stuff. I'll let you know how it
goes.
Also, I don't HAVE to use HDSDR - I was just using it as the example since that
is what Balint uses in the software package on his site. If you know something
that works without all this ExtIO hassle, let me know.

hopefully other setups).
I am currently running Windows 7 Pro on a Dell M4800. I am trying to get this
B200 working with some kind of waterfall type software (I would like to be able

I have installed an overwhelming amount of software trying to get this thing to
work with no real success so far.
I can navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\UHD\lib\uhd\examples folder and
run some of the programs there from the command prompt. The computer sees and

Dear list,
I am using a USRP B200, over a lenovo E520 E520 with xubuntu "12.04.4
LTS" with kernel "Linux 3.2.0-61-generic x86_64".
USB 2.0 is working with USRP B200.
To avail the higher bandwidth delivered by USB 3.0, I replaced the
PCMCIA slot in my laptop with a USB 3.0 express card from a company
equip, product no. 111832. The express card has an internal USB 3.0
controller to support USB 3.0 with B200.
The card is recognized when I boot my OS with the card is interested. I
didn't perform any speed test but it is delivering me 20+ MS.
However during operation, the OS doesn't recognize the card, when it is
re-inserted. I did figure out that my OS doesn't recognize the USB 3.0
controller embedded in the card, hence the problem narrows down to the
USB driver. I also tried with the latest ubuntu 14.04, the problem
remains the same.
I don't want to irritate you guys by asking solutions for the issues
with the USB driver. I just want to know whether any of your guys
had/know/tried express cards which were like plug-n-play or didn't have
USB driver issues of not recognizing the card.
Thanks!

Ankit

HDSDR folder. Many many thanks for the tip. Well, it seems like if Balint just
adds that note to the website everything will go fine! Now to figure out how to
get higher quality signals... The B200 seems to have trouble tuning just
regular radio channels - probably need a better antenna and to play around with
the HDSDR settings. Thanks all

I run Windows x64 and have no problems using the Driver Balint wrote.
When you ran the setup for
http://spench.net/drupal/files/ExtIO_USRP+FCD+RTL2832U+BorIP_Setup.zip , did
you install it in the same directory as HDSDR?
Also, you can use Simon Brown's SDR Console
http://v2.sdr-radio.com/Download.aspx . Just make sure you have x64 UHD
installed and run uhd_usrp_probe.exe first. You need to do that so the fpga
code loads first.

I know I'm replying to my own message here, but I wanted to add some more
detail to what I last wrote. I've attached a screenshot of the error that I
keep getting when using HDSDR. It states "Load ExtIO DLL failed: %1 is not a
valid Win32 application." This happens when I try to click ExtIO in HDSDR (see
this site for details - I've followed all the steps given there). Aparently
this is a common problem with 64 bit users... does anyone know a workaround???
In response to Marcus - Using the system with HDSDR is just one small
application I'm using the B200 for - I'm using the system with great success in
Linux and it has been wonderful for GSM as well as a VHF radio station. I know
the problem I'm experiencing is with the ExtIO plug-in and I didn't know any
other message board to turn to. I figured this is a general troubleshooting
message list and a good way to get a hold of Balint - if there is a better
group out there, please let me know!
I am trying to write a good guide for all the people out there that are not
researches and the like - Since I've been through the hard stuff, why not write
it all up so it becomes easy stuff and people can learn how to use Ettus
products even faster :)
All the best,
- Dan

Subject: [USRP-users] B200 Step by Step on Windows
All,
I would really like to get a straightforward guide written for my setup (and
hopefully other setups).
I am currently running Windows 7 Pro on a Dell M4800. I am trying to get this
B200 working with some kind of waterfall type software (I would like to be able
to see the spectrum and move around through it).
I have installed an overwhelming amount of software trying to get this thing to
work with no real success so far.
I can navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\UHD\lib\uhd\examples folder and
run some of the programs there from the command prompt. The computer sees and
communicates with the B200, so now, how do I get it to work with something like
HDSDR or SDR-RADIO???
Thanks,
- Dan

Excellent! I've been very pleased with my B200. It's worked very well in
Windows and Linux. When it comes to Windows applications some do specific
tasks better than others. If it's broadcast FM stations you want to tune
you may find that SDR console works better with the wide filtering options
and RDS decoding built in.
Have fun.
