OK yes I appreciate that, SDRs are indeed a new area for me. I’ll check this 
page out and keep researching. Looks like numpy has a lot of functions to use 
as well for conversions.

Sounds like you may want to start out by learning exactly what an SDR is, and 
how they related to DSP work.

You should probably visit the basic tutorials page at gnuradio.org, even if 
that's not the path you go down, it has pointers
  to a lot of basics.

The UHD library really is just about interfacing to the hardware, and getting 
sample streams into and out-of it.
