I talked about this a while back with my Father who works for the Canadian
Space Agency,
and the re-use of the Buran will never happen for a few reasons (these are the
only I remember) :
One of the shuttles has been placed outdoors at an amusement park in Russia,
and therefore, is in unnacceptable condition.
The other Buran was damaged due to a roof collapse in its storage facility in
the Ukraine.
The Buran was only used once for an unmanned mission and is of an outdated
design. While the current space shuttles are old, they
had updates over the years to accomodate the needs of 21st century space flight.

Subject: [USSR-Cars] Not car related-anybody remember Buran?
With the final US shuttle mission in progress, just wondered how many
folks remember the Buran shuttle the USSR developed? It would be nice if Russia
could bring back.their shuttle to replace ours, but that's probably wishful
thinking on my part. I do have a couple toy models of Buran :)
