Having a DNS server with 2 ip addresses is really kind of pointless on a

I don't know about this one.  Should work.  RH 8 is bind 9.  Not sure
what rh 72 was, but if it was bind 8, then you may need to tweak the
files a little bit.  I wouldn't expect too many problems.

Of course.  You always need a default route.  How else will your DNS
server find other DNS servers and the root servers?

You needn't do that.  If you configure the network interfaces with
RedHat's tools, they'll come up automatically, even ip aliases like
eth0:0.  RedHat should bring up lo automatically anyway.
