Sounds fair to me. Let's make a list of possible names for the
group, and then do a process-of-elimination on that list. The name
should most closely reflect what the majority of the membership
represents. Some ideas might include:
- BYU Linux Users Group (BYU LUG, or BLUG!)
- seems to be the most popular form nowadays
- BYU Linux and Unix Users Group (BYU LUUG, or BLUUG)
- like blu.org/
- BYU Unix and Linux Users Group (BYU ULUG)
- hmmmm... wrong order...
- BYU Unix and Open Systems Users Group (BYU UOSUG)
- like auug.org.au
- BYU Free Software Group (BYU FSG)
- symonds.net/~fsug-kochi/, marblehorse.org/
- BYU Open Source Users Group (BYU OSUG)
- cs.uoregon.edu/open/
- BYU Linux/BSD Users Group (BYU LBSDUG?)
- to pay tribute to Jon and his (dying) OS :-P
- buttelug.guinix.com/
- BYU Unix Users Group (BYU UUG)
- <yawn>
Perhaps we should concentrate on an acronym that sounds the least
obscene...
And as far as splitting the group, I don't know. But there are some
topics of discussion that don't seem to fit well under *any* of the
groups that currently in existence on campus. We need to expand the
canopy of the UUG, create SIG's in the UUG, or make a new group
altogether.
