I assume you are talking about the kind of pdf files like the income tax forms 
that allow you to fill in entries.  If it's not the kind that has this 
feature you can forget it.  If it has this feature adobe has an acrobat 5 
reader for free download from their site that allows this.  The distribution 
you use (I use mandrake) might have acrobat 5 packaged for you also.  You 
should note that you can't save the data entered in the forms but have to 
fill them out and print them before closing the application.
