It's a bug in your VCR.  It should not affect the pass-through, it
should only activate when you try to record.  That's how my VCR works,
anyway.

To remove Macrovision encoding, try one of these:
http://www.birdbrainpress.com/decoder/decoder.htm

Or go to Radio Shack and get an RF Modulator, which will let you hook
your DVD directly to the TV.  I think they're about $20-$30.
