I set up a RedHat 9 router with the "minimal" option and ended up uninstalling
more stuff.
When I run 'w' I see nothing (except the uptime), but a 'who' correctly shows
all the users logged in. Both commands work properly for root, so I'm guessing
it's a problem with permissions. The manpage for 'w' says it uses /etc/utmp, but
that doesn't exist. /var/run/utmp exists and is readable by all. /var/log/utmp
does not exist. What could the problem be?

thanks,
 peter
