I'm currently doing this with a Celeron 700 MHz machine with 64 Megs of RAM that my grandpa was going to toss because of a bad hard drive. I put a new hard drive in, another network card (it has two now) and installed Mandrake 9.1. I then used drakconf to set-up "internet connection sharing" (turns it into a firewall/router), added a cheap hub to the system, and I was good to go. I tweak the shorewall firewall settings with webmin (also included by Mandrake) and it works great. Do a little reading about shorewall on the shorewall website (http://www.shorewall.net/) and maybe ask me and it shouldn't be too hard to modify the default Mandrake settings so you can still play bzflag or use bittorrent or whatever.
