I don't know what to say about framebuffer mode or increased resolution.  I
have no experience with either of those.  When I want some quick X action, I
turn to iceWM.  I like the way it's set up.  I write a little config file that
binds keystrokes to all the programs I use often and the start menu doohickey
has all the programs listed in the KDE and gnome menus, in case i want a wierd
program.  It uses alt-tab switching, which I like a lot.  Works for me.  I
tried blackbox, but it made me use the mouse too much (especially annoying
since I am usually on a laptop using a touchpad with two buttons).
