Actually, this should work.  A NAT'd address should be able to contact
any external address that the NAT server can get to--including the
external address of the server.  Of course, pinging both the external
and internal addresses may be a good idea when you're troubleshooting.

Can you give us the output of "ifconfig" and "netstat -rn" on the Debian box and the iBook, and/or the output of "ipconfig /all" on the XP box after they are hooked up to the iBook?


Then try "ping <inside-ip-of-apple>" as someone previously pointed out.

Also, if you could include a "traceroute 216.109.118.65" from the Debian box and "tracert 216.109.118.65" from the XP box that might also help, if the pinging worked properly. I am assuming when sharing is turned on that the iBook can still surf the web etc...

Also, you may want to check if your firewall service is on, and try turning it off to see if that helps.
