you mean xtank? (i think that was what it was called)

i played that a little bit in about 199-2 or so.

xscorch.  But I bet nobody here remembers or even saw the original game
called 'tank' (aside from that old two player apple hack.  Whether or not
scorched earth was derived or inspired by tank is fit for speculation, but
they are conspicuously simmilar).  It was pretty fun, way more wholesome and
fun than that complicated scorched earth thing that came out later.  640x480
@ 256 colors, 50 rounds max; hours of fun.
