I use Gnome because of the license. I think it's great that you can make pure free software with Qt, but I think the barriers to deploying software on Linux need to be as low as can be made. I believe in free software, but I also feel that if free software is better, it will become predominant because it is better, so it's best to make the transition as easy as possible.


If it weren't for the license, I'd probably use KDE. I prefer software to be customizable _and_ for the defaults to be good, and losing features over time has mildly frustrated me in Gnome. (My biggest frustration in losing features so far has been magnetic window boundaries.)
