An interesting fact is that the first pictures returned by viking on
Mars showed a redish plain scattered with bolders and a nice blue sky.
Very quickly NASA started only releasing images where the sky had taken
on a reddish hue, since that's what people expected and I think they
were afraid of being accused of faking it all.  In fact, on picture I
saw from viking looked an awful lot like the arizona desert on a nice
clear day.
