1) It is not published policy anywhere. It was the whim of the presidency.
It's a BYU club. BYU clubs are expected to uphold the honor code. I agree that the mailing list needs some sort of "official policy", but I think it's just silly to think that profanity would be allowed on the list.
3) It's not even clear that he used profanity. The word he used was a shade stronger than than darn, and occasionally heard on campus at BYU.
Oh, give me a break. What he said was clearly profanity. He certainly wasn't referring to the pet donkey that the rat owns. And just because the word is "occasionally heard on campus" doesn't make it okay.
One other thought, however. The officers stated that if Michael apologized and agreed to not post profanity, they'd let him back in. I think that's a little much, as it does kind of put the officers in a more self-righteous looking position. I think a more effective policy whould be to ban people for a short period of time (one week to a month probably, depending on the offense), after which they can get back on the list by clicking on a link or something to re-agree to the rules. Any thoughts on that?
