just the mobo, I got a spark off the DC jack. So, I want to get the jack off the mobo, buy a new one, and put it on. The only problem is that I've never soldered a circuitboard before and I need some help.

Most laptop motherboards use multi-layer PCB. If you're lucky, there's nothing like that around the power connector, but you may end up putting a lot of work into it for nothing. Additionally, something on the motherboard is probably fried, you could try just connecting wires from a power source to the motherboard directly before finding a replacement jack and going through the soldering work.

And uhhh, sorry, I can't help but good luck, sounds fun. I once tried tracing a hdd power supply problem in a laptop, unfortunately all the lines were inside the PCB, nothing I could do. I ended up finding a similar voltage source and soldering my own wire from there to the hdd -forget about power managment after that one.
