10.6 has nano (not just a symlink to pico), and I'm pretty sure 10.5 was the same way.
That's good that they're finally moving up in the world... the last OSX I used way 10.4, which, IIRC, was still using pico.

I predict that in 10 years this discussion will be filled with comments about how nano is a great operating system, if they could just do something about that editor...
