Good to hear so many people have interest. So an update on things. First of all, the web startup group on campus have invited me to do a mini-presentation at their next meeting, which is August 11th at 6:30 in the Tanner Building, Room 374. It will be just 10 minutes long and is a quick intro into what node.js is and what its good for. I will also show a few examples and some things I have done with it. I will probably use that as the basis for whatever presentation I would do at the meetup. Feel free to come.
On to the meetup - I figure we have enough interest to start throwing around some dates. Just off the top of my head, I say why not do it the week after the web startup group meeting, so that I have some time to refine my presentation. That would be August 18th and I figure starting between 6 to 7 would be the best for most people. Additionally, summer semester will be over, which will give people more time. Officially, I would say lets keep the meeting to about 60-75 minutes, but if people want to stick around and keep hacking and/or asking questions, then that would work. So far, what I envision for a layout is the following. 25 mins - intro presentation 10-15 mins - Q/A 25-35 - demos, group hacking, chit-chat. Obviously, pretty relaxed meeting. I am very open to suggestions or to others who might want to do a demo or something. Just shoot me any email. If that works for you or if you have any suggestions let me know. I would like to get at least 5 people committed to coming before I schedule the room. Anyways, glad to hear there is some interest, I think groups like this are a great resource for anyone trying to learn a new technology and is a chance to network with others. Let me know what you all think!
