Hi, hoping to get some advice from anyone who has started a successful
image service using ArcGIS 10 and ArcGIS Manager. The following is
from a thread I've posted on the ESRI forums but has so far gone
unanswered:

We're trying to start an image service with a mosaic dataset
through the "Add New Service" wizard in ArcGIS Server Manager. The
TIFFs themselves are sitting on a network drive (which can be read by
SOC and SOM), not in the SDE geodatabase with the mosaic dataset. The
server is running Linux (Red Hat). I've repaired the path names to
match the server file system. Our issues are twofold. First, when
selecting "Image Data Source", we're not sure if the correct source
should be "Within A Database" or "ArcGIS Server File System". And
second, neither of those works, so we're unsure if we're doing
anything correctly at this point. With respect to the database as
source, we get the following error:

Unable to get raster data information 0x8004150a -

which may be related to the fact that the rasters aren't in the
geodatabase. As far as the ArcGIS Server File System, we tried
selecting the sde connection file and choosing the mosaic dataset,
however, the service doesn't access the images. This may be related to
the fact that the image source path comes out looking like this:

   /serverfolder/subfolder/ourdatabase.sde\database.user.mosaicdataset

This is uncharted waters for us. If anyone can shed some light on
this and where we're going wrong, I'd appreciate it.
