Department of Geography has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time, 50%
FTE, Senior Computer Specialist for the Professional Masters Program in
Geographic Information Systems (PMP-GIS). The computer systems specialist will
report to the Director of the PMP-GIS program. The following tasks are to be
performed with priorities set through discussions with the PMPGIS Director and
Geography Department Senior Computer Specialist.
Specify, design, implement, deploy and manage enterprise GIS tools used for
remote instruction and research in support of PMP-GIS, working in coordination
with the Geography Department Senior Computer Systems Specialist. Both open
source and commercially available GIS server system components will be used.
Work in cooperation with personnel from UW Libraries and other UW Centers/Labs,
PMP-GIS program, and Federal, State and Local, community to implement a
strategy for Washington Geospatial Data Archive (WAGDA) 2.0 development and
deployment, while focusing on datasets relevant to the PMP-GIS
instructional/research mission.
Develop web site platform capabilities to support PMPGIS curriculum
instruction, research, and marketing, including, but not limited to GIS
workshop project idea collection and internship position availability. These
duties will be performed in collaboration with the PMPGIS graduate program
advisor. This activity will implement a content management system for PMPGIS
web site.
Develop web site platform capabilities to support curriculum connections to a
national learning network of GIS projects focusing on sustainability
management. These duties will be performed in collaboration with members of the
University Consortium for Geographic Information Science undertaking similar
activities for their Universities.
Provide technical support to PMP-GIS faculty, staff, and students regarding
installation of GIS software on their computers.
Answer technical systems questions from faculty and staff (teaching assistants)
in the PMP-GIS, as necessary, in support of student learning.

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with specialty in Geographic Information Systems and 5 years
of experience in some combination of GIS and systems administration work
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications
except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.

outstanding client service experience and documentation of technical processes
and procedures.
Proven ability to work independently, as a part of a team, and interact
courteously with end-users.
Flexible and available to respond to system outages during off-hours. Some
system set-up and maintenance work may also be required work during off-hours.
Condition of Employment:
Professional academic office.
Scheduled work hours: M-F, 20 hours per week, TBD
Position will require some off-hours and weekends.
