You may have lost one or more pins out of the selector drum, It's happened
to me twice and at least 3 or 4 other owners that I know. Remove the clutch
and check the end of the selector drum. Yamaha have redesigned the whole
assembly but are being rather coy about the new part numbers. I've got the
new part in my bike but I fitted it in a rush and lost the packaging. It is
easy to fix with a few basic tools and I would suggest that you check this
before getting too carried away. I had dealers telling me that the engine
would have to come out and be stripped down just to find the problem and
quoting US$1000 labour minimum. I fixed it myself for less than US$100
including buying a couple of tools and a full Mobil 1 oil change.

Pete.
