I live in Tokyo and I bought a 99 US version here.
I think these are the three main differences between the US and Japanese
models.
1. Japanese's models do not have the V-Boost.
2. Japanese models have black rims and mufflers and KM/H Speedos , US
models have chrome and the duel MPH and KM/H Speedos.
3. At least from what I have found around Tokyo, it is easier to find a
US model new than a Japanese model. At least in the areas I look
in.
Also if you are from the US you can not import a Japanese model back to the
US.
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions email me off list.
