No they are solid.  It helps the vibration and I use foam grips with no bar ends
(just plugs).  The extensions are pressed in the  stock bars.  I tried the
Superbike bars but did not care for them.  Mainly because I have short arms and
those bars were not comfy for me.  I liked the width though and they gave me the
idea of the bar extensions.  The only right way to make them is to take your bars
(or bike) to a machine shop so they can measure the inside to get the proper size
to machine the bar extensions.  They need to be about one inch pressed inside the
bar and one inch outside the bar (or however much you want to widen them)
