Kraig,
As an interim solution to installing better suspension components ...
I finally addressed these settings and have to say I am more than
happy with the results .... it is like a different bike ... I weigh
165-170 lbs, (depends on the day of the week) ... I never carry any
additional load on the bike.
You can add up to 14 lbs of pressure to the front forks ... I ended up
at 8 lbs ... after doing a sag measurement ... 8 lbs gave me 1 1/4
inch static sag, (the bike by itself), and 1 3/4 inches of sag with me
sitting on it, (as opposed to 2 1/2 inches when the forks used to have
only 2 lbs in them ... I think the calculations for our suspension
travel revealed that 1 7/8 would have been perfect).
The bike never wobbles or shakes anyhow but the float sensation over
100 mph never gave me a great deal of confidence and I maintained a
self imposed limit of 130 mph ... with intense anxiety past 120 ... I
don't care how fast my animal friends want to go now ... as it is as
sitting on a bench ...
I don't know what the deal is with the rear shocks ... I ride with
another fellow that is exactly the same size as me and he moves
between 2 and 3 on the rebound damper settings .. but if I move past
"1" it is bone jarring ... neither do I ever move past the lightest
setting for compression damping, (spring collar adjuster). I would
think you should be at least 3-5 clicks with this much weight for the
rear spring tension .. try it .... you can feel if you have too much
or not and 2-3 on the damper. (IMHO of course).
