Hi Phil,
Not too important. To my knowledge "streetfighter" is a term that originated
in England referring to a particular naked bike esthetic. The idea, in
general, is to take everything off the bike (frequently starting with
sportbikes like the Fireblade (Britspeak for cbr 900) or other lightweight
bike> that isn't nailed on. Bye bye fairings etc. Sometimes mods include
dual headlights and raised bars. The Vmax is considered by many to be the
first factory streetfighter, although Triumph brought out a butt-ugly
version of the concept a couple of years ago (can't remember the name,
though). The term was coined to denote that the primary mission of the bike
was going fast as hell in short bursts, no high speed touring or road
racing.
Somebody else may have better history, though.
