Title: RE: Eiffelmax Germany - replacement 5th gear sets
Campbell,

thanks for the extensive and useful information. I will spend this weekend to find out what I need, what will fit and will let you all know. Of course the ordering will take about a week for the original parts, so it could take more than a week before I implement the gears. %^&* I thought I could spend my weekend in the sun instead of the garage!

Anyhow, thanks.

Patrick

Aimo,
I have not tried it so I can't swear to it ... I am not currently aware of anyone who has ... However ... the drive axle in the transmission is the same part number for the Vmax and the Royal Star. The main axle in the transmission is a different part number but the Royal has 16 teeth, (machined onto this shaft), and I suspect this is the difference.

I haven't heard any of the "not able to cope" chatter about this modification. The Royal Star makes the same torque at 4K RPM as a Vmax does at 6K, (the Venture engine makes more). The Royal Star weighs 100 lbs more than a Vmax, (the Venture weighs more).

As you can see ... the drive axle in the transmission is the same part number ... the middle gear set is exactly the same part number; the drive shaft is a different part number but it is 1 1/2 inches longer than a Vmax; the rear axle is the same part number and of course the rear end is the same unit but with the 10 tooth pinion, (which I think comes on European Vmaxes anyhow .. and of course the Royal/Venture has the hole drilled for the speed sensor ... that somebody I know is going to use to drive his SPA combo tach/speedo).

There are differences of course ... like the clutch basket, (which has a different number of teeth machined onto it and changes the primary drive ratio .. and has to mate with the correct crank gear etc), but I don't think durability is an issue here .... (the Royal/Venture has a five year warranty period and it is bigger).

However .......... it would be cool to hear what Eiffelmax is offering ... I am suggesting that if they are selling a 21/28 tooth gear set that they might be selling Royal/Venture gears ......... Since they "have" done this ... it would be interesting to see what you could "squeeze" out of them ... ;>)

Will they fit the Vmax? I heard stories of not fitting or not able to cope with the Vmax engine power output.
