I would *never* buy a helmet without trying it on first. I too have a large
head and as sizes and shapes vary between makes and models I've found that
there are only a few that will fit comfortably...
As a sidenote the shapes also have regional differences. I just found that
out in Ueno, Tokyo (a district that is like motorcycle accessory heaven).
They had *lots* of nice helmets not sold over here and good price on them
too, but none would fit me. Not even the Shoei XR800 that I own. The sales
rep told me that the Japanese models have a more round shape than european
ones... Don't know if there are other regional specs... I ended up with a
nice blue mirror visor instead :-(
