On my ZX9 conversion Pierre used the V-Max steer tube and bearings, custom
machined triple trees and the ZX9 stanchion tubes, brakes, rotors & wheel.
This setup let me get away with no frame changes to my max and the steering
lock still works. Of course the front end is about 3" lower but that hasn't
been a problem anywhere on the street. The fork stanchion tubes are 32" long
fully entended. The only added difficulty is getting that beast up on the
centerstand from such a low stance. That problem will go away whaen I add
the Kerker pipe and remove the center stand. Looks like I'll be in the
market for a cycle lift soon. :-)
In case you're wondering, It handles awsome! I'm still playing with the fork
tuning adjustments (preload, compression dampening & rebound dampening) but
it ride like a whole new bike. I got on a bud's stock max the other day and
it was down right scary. I didn't realize how much things had changed. The
stock setup feels like you're up on a horse. The ground is so far away and
turning takes so much effort. I rode the hell out of my Max before the front
end changes and actually thought it handled pretty good. I could drop into
corners easy enough but now a side by side comparison proves how wrong I
was.
I wouldn't pay the thousands it would cost to buy the front end and wheels
form an aftermarket dealer but if anyone can get Pierre to put together this
setup for them, I HIGHLY recommend it if you want to drastically improve the
handling of you Max.
