Hi Wayne,
I'll bet that the smaller diameter grips will really reduce the
effort you need to activate the controls. If the grip change allows you
to "squeeze" rather than "pull" with your fingers, you shouldn't have to
investigate other options. Just my $0.02

The other side of this problem is the high amount of force required to
squeeze the lever.
Is there any way to reduce this?
