In response to the guy who put me in the 'expert tuner' group, sorry,
I'm just a VMAX
and sportbike parts guy, who has tried to keep his ears and eyes open,
all along the way, and has
gleaned lots of info on the VMAX, most of it good, some bad...I try to
weed the bad out,
as I go...But THANX for that vote of confidence anyway!!!

BTW, is the guy that talked about 'Front Range' dynos, living in CO?
I am TRYING(operative word here...the phone list was a bust...) to get
an online CO VMAX Riders List going, at-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Any and all VMAX riders and friends are invited to join;
should be an easy way to get rides and happenings going, for MAXers in
CO...

I learned a MOST VALUABLE tip, from a VMAX mini-sprint contact,
regarding oil starvation
problems, the SCOURGE of many a motor, both stock and modified, and a
solution for the excessive blowby often found in airboxes and filters,
especially among those of us who like to
wind it up!!!...

This particular guy, after doing this mod, has RACED, in a
mini-sprint(MUCH harder than most
of us could ever push our 2-wheelers...) a MAX motor, ON ALCOHOL(VERY
hard on motors, AND OIL...) for 6 YEARS, with NO oil-related rod or
crank failures(he seized one rod, but found that the bearing clearance
had just been too tight...)...
This got my attention immediately, with all the motor parts I have in
stock, from this type of failure...

What he told me next, just FLOORED me...

The CAUSE of oil starvation in a VMAX motor, as well as the excessive
blowby at sustained RPM, is due, in large part, to the small cup, at the
bottom of the oil return line, in the bottom of the oil pan, which is
held in by one bolt, and EASILY removed...
He stated that, after removing this cup, and allowing the oil to return,
without restriction, to the pan, and hence the pickup, to be used
again...that his oil blowby went from excessive, to nearly nil(2 or 3
drops, after a 20 lap race...)and bearing failure, due to oil
starvation, became non-existent.

Needless to say, I will not install another motor in frame, nor will I
even do another aftermarket exhaust install, WITHOUT advising the
customer to drop the pan, and remove the little sheetmetal cup from
it...

This, for me anyway, is the biggest thing, bigger than the frontend
'fix', or the benefits of
frame bracing;
both of those were major breakthroughs for me, in my VMAX 'learning
curve',
but nothing like this.....

Hope this helps save someone else's VMAX motor, although it just may
bring the price of
replacement MAX motors down...guess THAT just kinda shoots me in the
foot, from a biz standpoint...
Oh well, guess there is lots of other parts to sell anyway...LOL
