I just installed Tokico 4-pot brakes on my early model (91) Vmax. They are Grrreattt!!!
I never knew how much braking power I've been missing. The stock Sumitomo for
Yamaha 2-pot calipers just do not match them.

I purchased the Nissin brake adapters made by Patrick Ahearn and sold by John
at RMSportmax and bought the calipers from a 93 ZX7 from the local MC wrecking
yard. They were $55.00 per caliper. The caliper mounting holes on the adapters
had to be drilled out to fit 10mm bolts (I think the Nissin calipers use 8mm
as that's what they're drilled for). I bought the bolts from an automotive fastener
distributor. These are 4ea 10mm X 1.25 X 30mm with locking nuts for the stanchion
mounting holes and 4ea 10mm X 1.25 X 20mm bolts without nuts (they screw into
the caliper). The caliper mounting tabs were machined about 3/32" so the rotor
would ride centered in the caliper. The drilled holes in the adapters are a
perfect match for the Tokicos just like the Nissins. The brake pads line up
perfectly on the rotor ("Braking" brand and they aren't noisy). This was one
of the best investments I have made for outstanding stopping power at a nominal
cost. Now if I could only find cap screws (stainless preferred) in the proper
size instead of these ugly 10mm bolts to make it look more sanitary......

John Furbur: Thanks for the tips. I'll pass on San Francisco this weekend as
I promised my kids the Santa Cruz boardwalk (and I have to live with them).
I'll mail the rear end and money for the Royal Star gearing swap next week.
Later!!!
