FYI,
In 1986 and 1987 there was a US import tariff placed on 750 and larger
displacement bikes in an attempt to protect a then struggling Harley
Davidson from cheaper priced imports and from going out of business.
For Viragos .. this meant making the 750 a "700" with a smaller bore,
(even the 1100 became a 1000), and this was the only two years this
was done. For the Vmax it meant no more Vmaxes to be imported until
1988.
and thats the way it was in 1986 ..........
